Web-Based Training for Web Applications

About

WebTrain is the home of all online training videos produced by Web Services at Rice University.

Here’s a quick overview of Web Services solutions and applications:

  • Custom dynamic web sites: Using CMS400, we build custom web sites with original graphic designs and add whatever features you request.  Although departments, centers, and administrative groups are our most common clients, any campus group with funding for custom site development may wish to consider this option.  We used to build sites with eMPower, and if you’re still using an eMPower site, you may wish to consider an upgrade to CMS400 and a refresh of your graphic design.
  • Simple dynamic web sites: Using WordPress, we offer quick and simple sites–like this one–for free to student groups and research labs.  WordPress provides easy through-the-web editing and page creation, as well as blogs, RSS feeds, and editable banner images.
  • Document sharing & collaboration: Using Sharepoint 2007, we provide private document-sharing sites to Rice groups who need a common repository for their Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and so on.  Sharepoint’s potential for integration with Office 2007 is substantial, but it is useful for almost any kind of document or list, and it includes a wiki tool.

Please select a service or application to begin your training, and contact webservices@rice.edu if you would like a site set up!
