Using eMPower on a Mac

To access eMPower, all Mac users need to set up the Remote Desktop Connection.

Installing the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC)

  1. Go to the RDC download page.
  2. Click Download Remote Desktop Connection Client.
  3. At the bottom of the page, click English (.dmg).
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to save the file to your hard disk. If you are using Safari, the downloaded file is saved to the desktop unless you specified a different location in the Preferences dialog box of Safari. To check your preferences, on the Safari menu, click Preferences, and then click General.
  5. Double-click the file you downloaded in step 5 to place the Remote Desktop Connection volume on your desktop, and then double-click the Remote Desktop Connection volume to open it. This step might have been performed for you.
  6. In the Remote Desktop Connection volume window, double-click the Remote Desktop Connection.mpkg package to start the installation process, and then follow the instructions on the screen. (Instructions taken from the RDC website)

Using the Remote Desktop Connection:

  1. In your Applications folder, find Remote Desktop Connection. Open it.
  2. In the field labeled Computer, enter one of the following:
    • 128.42.247.235
    • adterm.rice.edu
    • adterm-n1.rice.edu
    • adterm-n2.rice.edu
  3. Click Connect.
  4. If you have successfully connected, a blue window with a login box will open.
  5. In the login box, log in using your NetID. If you are having trouble logging in, please contact the IT Help Desk (713-348-HELP).
  6. Once logged in, open Internet Explorer and begin editing your website.

To upload files to your website, put them on your U: drive, and they will be visible on the terminal server as well.
